what's on your nightstand?

the nightstand series has been on a bit of a hiatus. but it's back. and with a bang. i recently discovered what's up whimsy. a wonderful toronto blog by an equally wonderful shannon. and i'm kinda in love with everything she posts. like here. and here. but one of my favourite things. is shannon's "a house is not a home... without craigslist" series. where she expertly shows us. how to get designer looks for less. so check out shannon's nightstand below. and then head over to what's up whimsy. because there are great things happening over there with that shannon.

much like the rest of our house, the bedroom is a work in progress.  we are currently renting, so a lot of projects get put off until we are "in the new house".  even though the decor isn't exactly perfect, i love how cozy our bedroom is and i love our nightstands. they were my dad's aunt and uncle's and were passed down to us when we moved out. i have a plan to paint them one day, but i can't decide on the paint colour, so they sit as is. there are always numerous books on my stand because i can't go to sleep without reading at least a couple pages of whatever i'm reading.  please don't judge me on my book preferences - lauren conrad's l.a. candy - i prefer fluff!  i love my bedside lamp. i got it at ikea and glued some grosgrain ribbon around the top and bottom of the shade and it made all the difference. and to finish off the nightstand, i have a photo of my husband and i on our wedding day.

thanks for having me on this fun series kate!

  3. This is a really fun series - gives us a glimpse into the lives of our fellow bloggers :-)

Shannon, seeing as you didn't judge my list of things I love, I won't say a word about LA Candy ;-)

I just read a blog post at Centsational Girl where she made over a dresser in a beautiful shade of grey-blue with brushed brass hardware. You might want to check it out, I think your night tables would look great done in the same or a similar colour :-)

  7. Wow, I LOVE this series, and I love Shannon's night stand (it's so lovely, just like the rest of her house)!

I agree that a nightstand is an important part of the bedroom. It's the first thing you see when you wake up (if you're facing that way, obviously) and the last you see at night. I recently moved to a furnished (rental) house and am not a major fan of my new nightstand, but I am spending some time sprucing it up with limited resources...my partner in crime doesn't seem to understand why I must find a bamboo mat to cover up the slightly scratched white laminate surface. He may never understand, but it doesn't matter. I need a nice nightstand to feel "normal" :)

Looking forward to more of these posts.
