what's on your nightstand?

greedy girl is one of those blogs that i used to visit and think, if i had a blog this is exactly what i would write about. i think it's the third blog i ever read. IN THE HISTORY OF MY BLOG READING. and i still read it religiously. so imagine how thrilled i was when caroline said she would participate in my nightstand series. thrilled might just be the understatement of the month. and how could you not love greedy girl when she puts together ensembles like this? what i adore most about caroline's blog is that i never know what i'm going to find there. the unexpected amazement that she gives me every day. i simply love it. i mean one day she's telling me about pono jewelry. and the next we're talking loeffler randall. either way my heart beats faster and my credit cards start to softly weep. but there's only one problem. whatever caroline is feeling greedy for. so is this girl. at this point she could honestly just change the name of her blog to: kate's a greedy git. her blog world is just that good. so check out caroline's nightstand below. and then check out one of the greatest blogs around: greedy girl. you'll love it. and you'll be hooked on caroline's wit and cool quotient. and then you'll be like me. waiting with bated breath for caroline to show you the next best thing.

i try to keep my nightstand as tidy as possible with a few magazines and books, plus some things that make me smile.

my lamp typically rises higher and higher as i stack more and more magazines and books beneath it, which i kind of prefer since my bed sits so high. right now, you'll find julia child's 'my life in france', 'the portable dorothy parker' (my very favorite), 'down the nile' by rosemary mahoney and my mom's copy of 'the catcher in the rye' from high school. oh, and vogue and lucky.

i love trinkets from traveling, especially this kokeshi my friends izaak and holly brought back from japan. the eiffel towers i picked up in paris last summer, and the 'jour de fĂȘte' postcard i found in brussels (i haven't seen the film, but i loved the illustration). i collect both eiffel towers and postcards, so i usually have them sprinkled about my apartment. my diana's in the background. (i need to drop my film off... i haven't done that yet!)

there aren't words to describe this candle. it looks amazing. it smells amazing. best sleepy-time candle ever.

i'm not very good about having picture frames. i think that must be a grown-up thing i haven't quite accomplished. but, i keep this photo of my joe and me clothes-pinned to my lamp; it's the last thing i see before i go to sleep. (i also collect fortunes. well, i don't so much collect them as i think it is bad luck to throw them away. it's like 'hoarders.' but with cookie fortunes.)

i love these lip balm tins, so when i ran out of balm, i couldn't bear to throw them away. now keep them around to hold pills and the like. you can also see that i have a rock sitting there. it's from my first trip with joe to cape cod; another travel trinket, i suppose.

thank you so much to kate for the invitation to join in the nightstand fun. please drop by greedy girl anytime!
